In this article we’re covering some of the most commonly asked questions about our digitally printed bespoke cushion covers printing & manufacturing service.
What Industries do you Produce Digitally Printed Cushions for?
While we will produce digitally printed cushions for all industries, we find that we’re most commonly producing cushion covers for artists, designers, small brands and startups, who wish to turn their designs into products they can sell to their customers at a margin.
We find we’re well placed to work with such customers, for a few reasons.
Firstly, we want to work with customers like this, and this is probably obvious to new customers in the way that we respond to enquiries and follow up with such enquiries.
Customers tell us that quite often, as small brands, individual artists, designers, or small startups, they’re not given the impression by many other firms on the market that their enquiry is particularly welcomed.
There are companies in the UK offering digital fabric printing services and producing cushion covers, that are geared up for much larger volume orders, and while many companies like this will take smaller orders, these kind of enquiries aren’t necessarily what they’re the most excited to receive, and it seems that some companies don’t do much to hide this, including in some cases, either not following up, or not even responding.
We’re often told by new customers that they find our level of attention refreshing, as customers can tell as soon as they speak with us, and by our actions thereafter, that we are very keen to work with them.
In addition to producing cushions for designers, artists, small brands and startups, we’re also commonly producing bespoke cushion covers for the hospitality industry.
Not only do we produce cushion covers made with a wide range of different, high quality fabrics, we also produce cushions made from FR fabrics, including the popular “Hampton FR” which is a high quality linen look fabric with inherent fire retardancy. We can also have cotton and linen fabrics FR coated after printing.
By the way, while we’re talking about the hospitality industry, we also produce digitally printed wallpaper and wall murals, including temporary, removable wall murals which won’t mark your walls when removing.
We regularly produce cushions for the events industry also, often being asked to produce high quality cushions for individual events. We have produced cushions for TV, with our cushions having been used in the background of news sets, TV dramas, and even a recent movie.
How are Digitally Printed Cushions Made?
In the majority of cases, we print the fabric first on the roll, using one of our Mimaki pigment printers (this is water based ink) for cottons and linens, and using the HP Stitch dye sublimation printer for polyesters (also water based).
We print the fabric in panels, with a 2cm bleed. So if we’re producing the standard sized 45cm cushion covers, we’ll print 47cm panels, which gives the CMT team (Cut, Make, Trim) enough fabric to work with.
The panels are then cut out, sewn together, the concealed zips are added, labels are sewn in, including the standard care labels, and the customer’s own brand label if they have sent these too us.
What Sizes of Cushion Covers do you Supply?
Our digitally printed cushion cover production service is completely bespoke, meaning we’ll produce whatever shape and size you like. The most common sized cushion we produce is 45cm square, which is why these are the cushions in our manufactured products price list, however we will quote for smaller cushions, slightly larger cushions, much larger floor cushions, rectangular cushions – literally whatever you would like, we can produce for you.
Can I have Piping?
While piping on cushions isn’t as popular as it once was, we can certainly add piping if you would like your cushions to be piped.
We make our piping from scratch so we can make up custom piping from your own colours.
Can I Have my Own Brand Labels?
You certainly can, and there’s no extra charge for this, either, if we’re sewing your labels in with the hemming as standard.
Unlike some suppliers, we ONLY put our customer’s own brand labels into our customer’s products, except for the standard care labels which don’t contain any branding information. We know there are some suppliers out there who put their own brand labels into their customer’s cushion covers, we don’t do this.
We don’t print labels, but we recommend Pennine labels in Colne, Lancashire, or for smaller quantities, Bags of Love.
Do You Supply Cushions Inners/Pads.
We don’t supply inners, and the reason for this is simply that they take up too much room to store, so it makes a lot more sense for our customers to order them directly from the supplier. If you need a source of cushion inners, just email us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
What About Zips?
We use concealed zips, which we usually place at the very bottom of the cushion, however customers some times ask us to place the zip in a different position, for example two thirds of the way down the back of the cushion, and we can do this too of course.
When it comes to the colour of zips, we would usually use black, white or cream zips. As with piping, if you would like a zip colour that we don’t stock, you can choose to source your own zips and send these to us.
How Long Does it Take?
The average lead-time for digitally printed cushion covers is 4-5 weeks, however this does change depending on our workload.
What is the Minimum Order / MOQ?
The minimum order for digitally printed cushion covers is just 25.
Can I Mix Designs?
Yes you can, and when it comes to the price you’ll pay, this comes down to the total quantity, not the number of designs. For example, if you order 100 cushion covers, our MOQ is 10pcs per design so you can have up to 10 designs in a total quantity of 100.
