In the next few days, we will be introducing two new fabrics to our Eco Polyester range: Eco Columbus and Eco Toledo. Both fabrics are made with 100% Repreve recycled polyester fibres, making them the second and third fabrics with this composition in the range. The first of course is our Freemont Linen Look. However, where the Freemont linen look has a slightly more open weave and uneven texture, Eco Toledo and Columbus have a closed plain weave with a smoother texture.
Firstly, a bit of spec of each of the fabrics. Eco Columbus is the light/medium weight fabric at 225gsm. As mentioned previously, it is made up of 100% Repreve fibres which are made using recycled plastic bottles. It’s a durable fabric with a soft handle and non-optic appearance. Possible end uses include: table runners, tablecloths, cushion covers, upholstery and tote bags.
Eco Toledo is a heavier, medium weight fabric at 300gsm and is also made up of 100% Repreve fibres. It may also be used for: table runners, tablecloths, cushion covers, upholstery and tote bags. It’s also a durable fabric with a soft handle and non-optic in appearance. Eco Toledo could be used if you’d like a more luxurious feel to your products as it has a thicker texture.
Both fabrics are 60”/152cm wide and will be printed using dye sublimation. Dye sublimation is a print method where the design is printed onto transfer paper and then fed through the rotary heat press alongside the fabric. The heat seals the design on to the fabric which makes the print permanent and durable.
Eco Columbus and Eco Toledo will be joining Freemont and the other 4 fabrics in the Eco Polyester range. Currently, the range includes:
- Freemont 100% Repreve Linen Look – 209gsm
- Eco Cordoba 66% Inherent FR (Fire Retardant) Polyester, 34% Repreve
- Eco Canvas 44% Repreve, 56% Polyester
- Eco Phoenix 68% Repreve, 32% Polyester
- Eco Austin 48% Repreve, 44% Polyester, 8% Linen
Eco Polyesters are a great print base if you’re wanting to add eco-friendly products to your range. With fibres made from recycled plastic bottles, by printing on this fabric rather than 100% standard polyester, you are saving plastic from going into the ocean and making use of a material that would otherwise be discarded.
